Add featured tiles to the event home page

Written by Customer Success

Featured tiles are clickable tiles on the attendee home page. Use them to send attendees to a page, a session, a speaker, a sponsor, a map or a website. The mobile app and the web app show the same layout.

Before you start

  • You need to be an organization admin or an event admin.

  • Featured tiles are off by default.

  • Tile images: JPEG or PNG preferred, up to 5 MB after cropping.

  • A tile alone in its row is cropped to 5:2 (1500 x 600 px). A tile in a row of two is cropped to 5:3 (1000 x 600 px).

  • To limit tiles to some attendees, set up registrant lists first. See Organize registrants with ticket type lists and custom lists.

Where to find it

Customization > Featured Tiles in the admin panel. The page has two tabs: Layout and Settings.

Turn on featured tiles

  1. Open Customization > Featured Tiles.

  2. On Layout, select Enable featured tiles. Or open Settings and turn on Use Featured Tiles.

The change applies at once. Turning featured tiles off hides them from attendees but keeps your layout.

Build the layout

The Layout tab shows a phone preview on the left and the editing panel on the right.

  1. Select Add row and choose a row type:

    • Heading: a line of text.

    • Sponsor ad: one of your sponsor ads.

    • 1 Tile: one wide tile.

    • 2 Tiles: two tiles side by side.

  2. Select a heading or a tile in the preview to edit it in the panel. See Edit a tile.

  3. To move a row, hover over it and drag the handle on its left.

  4. To remove a row, hover over it, select the x on its right and confirm with Remove.

  5. Select Save layout.

The message "Featured Tiles updated successfully" confirms the save.

Edit a tile

  1. Under Design, enter the Text (optional, up to 55 characters).

  2. In Tile style, choose Color or Image.

    • Color: choose Theme color and pick one of the curated colors, or Custom color and pick any color.

    • Image: select Click to add image, choose a file, crop it and select Ok.

  3. Under Navigation, choose where the tile leads in Link to. See Where a tile can link. Some choices ask for one more field, for example Sponsor or URL.

  4. Optional: for a link to the schedule, speakers or sponsors, select Add Filter to open the page with filters already applied.

  5. Under Gating, choose Anyone or Specific lists. For Specific lists, choose the lists in Visible to specific lists.

Edit a heading or a sponsor ad row

  • Heading: enter the Text and set Gating. A heading can't be empty.

  • Sponsor ad: the row shows one sponsor ad, chosen at random according to each ad's display share. Set Gating here. Set the ad's Tile text and Tile image under Sponsors > Sponsor Ads (Go to Sponsor Ad settings). See Set up and manage sponsor ads.

Where a tile can link

Link to groups the options:

  • Main content: your built-in pages under their current names, for example People, Schedule, Stream, Speakers, Discovery and Spaces. The group also has My schedule, Session (Specific), Stream (Specific), Speaker (Specific), Venue map and Networking map. Home, Sponsors and Breakout Rooms are not in this group.

  • Sponsor pages (when sponsors are on): Sponsors (Main tab), Sponsor (Specific) and each sponsor tab, shown as "<tab name> (Tab)".

  • Custom pages: each custom page.

  • External: External link, which needs a URL starting with http:// or https://.

Options for features that are off are not offered. For example, with the schedule off, Schedule, My schedule and Session (Specific) are missing. Unpublished custom pages and sponsor tabs are not offered either.

Filters you can add with Add Filter:

Each filter can be used once per tile. See Filter speakers, sessions and sponsors by custom fields.

Example: point attendees to recordings

After the event, use a tile labeled Watch recordings to help attendees find videos you have made available. Choose Session (Specific) for one session, Schedule for the agenda, or External link for a recordings page.

Add the recording links first, then update the tile and select Save layout. Check the destination as an attendee who has access.

What attendees see

  • The tiles appear on the home page of the mobile app and the web app, after the spotlight cards and before the pitch reels. See Add an image or video to the event home page for the full order.

  • A tile with a theme color shows a light shade of that color with dark text. A tile with a custom color shows that color with white text. An image tile shows the text in white at the bottom, over a dark fade.

  • Attendees see only the headings and tiles set to Anyone or to a list they are on. If both tiles in a row are hidden, the row is hidden. If one is hidden, the other stretches across the row and keeps its 5:3 shape.

  • Selecting a tile opens its link. External link opens the address in the in-app browser in the mobile app, and in a new browser window in the web app.

  • If no venue map is set, Venue map shows "The venue map is not available for this event". If no networking area map is set, Networking map shows "The networking map is not available for this event".

  • A sponsor ad tile opens the sponsor's booth and counts as a click on the ad. If the event has no sponsor ads, the row is hidden.

Limits

  • Tile text: up to 55 characters.

  • Tile images: up to 5 MB after cropping. The crop step saves the image as JPEG or PNG, so animated GIFs become still images. Brella resizes images to fit 1200 x 800 px.

  • Up to 2 tiles per row.

  • A removed row can't be restored after you select Save layout.

Troubleshooting

A tile has no image after saving
The image was not saved, for example because it was larger than 5 MB after cropping. Upload a smaller image and select Save layout again.

Save layout fails after a list was deleted
A tile, heading or sponsor ad row is still limited to the deleted list. Until you fix it, the item is hidden from everyone except members of its other selected lists. Open each item set to Specific lists, remove the deleted list and save.

"Please enter a valid URL starting with http:// or https://"
Add https:// to the start of the URL.

A tile does nothing when selected
The tile has no Link to, or it links to a page the attendee can't see, such as a custom page limited to other lists.
