Lists group the registrants of an event. Each list carries permissions, such as networking and lead scanning, and you use lists to decide who sees which content and who gets which announcements and custom emails.
Before you start
You need to be an organization admin or an event admin.
Lists replace the earlier attendee groups. Ticket type lists that were migrated from a group show the group's ID as Attendee Group ID (Legacy) in their Settings tab.
Where to find it
People > Lists in the admin panel. The page opens on the Ticket type sub-tab. Custom is next to it.
Ticket type lists and custom lists
Ticket type list | Custom list | |
Membership | Every registrant is on exactly one | A registrant can be on any number, or none |
How people get on it | When you register them; otherwise the default list. You can move them later. | Add members, a CSV import, or the list's Automations |
Permissions | Every permission has a value | Every permission can be Not set, which defers to the person's other lists |
When lists disagree | Applies unless a custom list sets the permission | Overrides the ticket type list. Between custom lists, the higher Priority wins. |
Only on this kind | Display name, Profile badge, Show invites in app | Priority, Automations |
Content and communications work differently from permissions: they add up. A registrant gets every session, page, stream, announcement or custom email limited to any of their lists. See How permissions work when someone is on several lists.
Choose a list for the task
For example, use a ticket type list called "VIP investors" for a registration category with its own permissions and profile badge.
Use a custom list called "Session follow-up" to collect people from several ticket types for a targeted email. Leave permissions Not set when their other lists should decide them. At a hybrid event, check attendance type too: a custom list can override the attendance type on the ticket type list.
See Manage ticket type lists and Manage custom lists for the steps.
The default list
Brella creates a ticket type list named "All registrants" with every event. The table marks it Default.
Registrants added without a ticket type list go to the default list. This includes everyone who joins a public event with the join code.
When you delete another ticket type list, its members move to the default list.
The default list can't be deleted. You can rename it and give it a Display name in its Settings tab.
It starts with the event type as its attendance type.
How registrants get onto lists
Ticket type list:
Ticket type list in the Create new registrant panel, where the default list is preselected.
Ticket type list in the registration link form. You choose the list; nothing is preselected.
The
ticket_type_list_idcolumn of a CSV import.Later, Move members in the list's Members tab, or Assign to a list on People > Registrants. Both move the person out of their current ticket type list.
Custom list:
Add members in the list's Members tab.
The
custom_list_idscolumn of a CSV import. The list's Automations tab, which adds and removes people who match conditions. See Fill a custom list automatically.
What lists control
Permissions & access: networking, who members can send meeting requests to and receive them from, meeting limits, lead scanning and the QR code. Ticket type lists also set the profile badge and in-app invites. See Set permissions and access for a list.
Content and communications: sessions, custom pages, stories, featured tiles, streams, announcements and custom emails can be limited to lists in their own settings. Networking areas use lists in Who can access this location? (Networking > Networking Areas). Pitch reel uploads use lists in Who can upload videos? (Engagement > Pitch Reels).
Attendance type in hybrid events: each list is In-Person, Virtual or Hybrid.
Create a list
Open People > Lists.
Select New list and choose Ticket type or Custom. The New list panel (ticket type) or the New custom list panel opens.
Enter a List name. It is required and must be unique in the event across ticket type and custom lists. Case is ignored.
Optionally enter a Description. Only admins see it.
In hybrid events, choose the Attendance type: In-Person, Virtual or Hybrid. In-Person is preselected. In in-person and virtual events the field is hidden and the list gets the event type.
Select Create list.
The message "Ticket type list created" or "Custom list created" confirms it, and the list appears in the table. Open it to add members and set permissions.
A new ticket type list starts with Enable networking, Lead scanning, Show QR code and Show invites in app on, meeting requests to and from Anyone, and no meeting limits. A new custom list starts with every permission Not set and goes to the bottom of the custom list priority order.
Note: A custom list's Attendance type replaces the ticket type list's attendance type for its members. In a hybrid event, choose the type that fits everyone you put on the custom list. If you change the event type later, custom lists keep their attendance type.
The lists tables
Column | Content |
Priority | Custom lists only. The rank (#1 is the highest) and a drag handle. |
Name | The list name, the Default tag on the default list, and the description. If a ticket type list has a Display name that differs from its name, a line reads "Displayed as <display name> in the apps". Select the name to open the list. |
Members | The number of registrants on the list, joined or not. |
Attendance | Ticket type lists only. In-person, Virtual or Hybrid. |
Permissions | Icons for networking, lead scanning and the QR code, plus Show invites in app on ticket type lists. Green is On, red is Off, gray is Not set. Hover an icon to read it. |
Actions | Delete. Disabled for the default list. |
Each table shows 10 lists per page. Change the page size to 20, 50 or 100 at the bottom.
Limits
A registrant is always on exactly one ticket type list. To take someone off a ticket type list, move them to another one or delete the registrant.
Only ticket type lists have a Display name. Attendees see it on in-app invite cards as Invite type. Attendees who have a meeting request limit see the ticket type list's List name in the notice on the People page. Attendees never see custom list names.
