Add a recorded video to the home screen and schedule

Show a recording to attendees after the live session ends. Host the file on a video service, then paste its embed URL into Brella.

Note: Brella has no built-in studio and does not record streams. Download recordings from your video host.

Before you start

  • You need to be an organization admin or an event admin.

  • Upload the recording to a video host such as YouTube or Vimeo, and copy its embed URL. Do not use the share URL from the browser's address bar. See Add a stream with an embed URL.

  • Brella does not store video files. It loads the URL you enter.

  • To add the video as a stream, streams must be on. If Content > Streams shows Enable streams or Re-enable streams, select it. Attendees see the Stream page (or the name you gave it) only while Content > Streams > Settings > Use streams is on.

Where to find it

  • Home page video: Customization > Home Screen

  • Stream: Content > Streams

  • Session link: Content > Schedule, then the session's Details tab

Add the video to the home page

  1. Open Customization > Home Screen.

  2. Under Mobile app welcome media, choose Video.

  3. Enter the embed URL in Embed Video URL. Video preview shows the result.

  4. Select Save changes. If the event is in progress, Brella shows Editing an on-going event; confirm with Apply changes.

The video plays at the top of the home page in the mobile app and the web app, under the stories row if the event has stories.

Hero section media applies to the web app only. If you set it to Video and enter a URL in Video embed URL, the web app shows that video instead of the mobile app welcome media. Leave it on Don't show anything to show the same video in both apps.

Add the video as a stream

A stream plays inside Brella on the Stream page (or the name you gave it).

  1. Open Content > Streams and select Create new.

  2. Enter a Stream Title.

  3. Paste the embed URL in Stream URL.

  4. Under Who can watch this stream?, keep Anyone, or choose Specific lists and pick lists under Select lists.

  5. Select Save.

Link the video from a session

  1. Open Content > Schedule and open the session.

  2. On the Details tab, paste the URL in Stream/Video Url.

  3. Select Update.

Attendees see a Watch now button on the session.

  • Web app: it opens a page inside Brella that plays the video. The page has Full screen and Open in new tab at the top. Its tabs are the session chat (if Enable chat is on in Content > Schedule > Settings) and the session's Side Panel items.

  • Mobile app: it opens the URL outside Brella, in the browser or in the app that handles the link. If the phone cannot open the URL, the attendee sees "Not available".

To play the video inside the mobile app too, add it as a stream.

What attendees see

  • Home page: the video plays in a box at the top of the page.

  • Stream page: the video plays in the stream player, with the stream chat (Enable Stream chat) and the Side Panel (Integrations) if you set them up. Attendees on lists you did not select under Select lists do not see the stream.

  • Session: a Watch now button. The web app plays the video on a page inside Brella; the mobile app opens it outside Brella.

Limits

  • Only embeddable URLs work. Brella loads the URL in a frame, also for Watch now in the web app. If the video host does not allow embedding, the frame stays empty. On a session's video page, attendees can then use Open in new tab.

  • One welcome media item per place: one for Mobile app welcome media, one for Hero section media.

  • The admin panel has no size or ratio settings for the player. Player options come from the embed URL parameters of the video host.
