One switch gives every content slot its own live chat. Attendees open it from the session page before, during and after the session, in the mobile app and the web app.
Before you start
You need to be an organization admin or an event admin.
The switch applies to all content slots. There is no per-session chat switch, and networking slots have no chat.
Session chats can't be exported.
Where to find it
Content > Schedule > Settings in the admin panel, section Chat.
Turn session chat on or off
Open Content > Schedule > Settings.
Select Chat in the menu on the right.
Turn on Enable chat ("Enable a dedicated live chat for all content slots in your schedule"). The setting saves at once ("Saved").
Turning it on creates a chat for every existing content slot. Sessions you create later get one too. Turning it off hides the chats; the messages are kept and come back when you turn it on again.
Moderate a chat
Assign someone to keep the session chat open and check it during the session. Session chat messages do not send push notifications, so moderators need to watch for questions and unwanted content. Agree who will respond and who will remove messages. See Push notifications attendees receive.
Delete a message from the app. Sign in to the app as an organization admin or event admin, open the chat, long-press (mobile app) or right-click (web app) the message and select Delete message. In the mobile app, confirm Delete message? with Delete. In the web app, the browser asks "Delete message?" with the message text; select OK. Attendees don't get this menu, not even for their own messages. There is no moderation view in the admin panel.
Settings
Setting | What it does | Default |
Enable chat | Adds a live chat to every content slot. | Off |
What attendees see
On the session page, a chat entry reads "Got a thought or question? Share it here." with an Open chat button. From the second message on, the entry shows the message count ("12 messages") and cycles through the 3 latest messages.
Open chat opens the Chat room. Messages have the sender's name and picture; the field reads "Type a message..." and sends with Send. In the web app, Enter also sends and Shift + Enter starts a new line. Show all messages opens the full history when the chat has more messages than the first page.
In the web app, Watch now on a session with a stream link opens a stream page with the player and a Chat tab for the same chat.
The chat opens from the session page, so attendees who can't see a gated session don't reach its chat either.
The mobile app and the web app have the same chat.
Limits
All content slots or none.
No export and no admin-panel view of session chats.
Messages can't be empty and are limited to 255 characters in the app.
Troubleshooting
Attendees don't see a chat on a session
Enable chat is off, or the attendee can't see the session. Check Content > Schedule > Settings > Chat and the session's Who can access this slot?.
A chat is missing on one session only
The slot is a networking slot. Networking slots have no chat.
