Firewall and network requirements

A company network that blocks websites can stop the admin panel or the attendee apps from loading, stop sign-in codes from being sent, or break chat, notifications and video calls. Give your IT team these host lists to allow.

Before you start

  • Test on another network first, for example a phone hotspot. If Brella works there, the company network is blocking something.

  • Allow hosts, not single pages. Brella loads data from several hosts under brella.io and from a few third-party services.

  • For the attendee apps, allow both https and wss (secure WebSocket) for *.brella.io. Real-time updates use WebSockets. The admin panel does not use WebSockets.

Admin panel (manager.brella.io)

Required for the admin panel to load and for signing in:

  • manager.brella.io — the admin panel

  • app.brella.io — the Brella API the admin panel calls

  • *.brella.io — other Brella hosts, including uploaded images and files such as logos, cover images and profile pictures (for example brella-assets.brella.io)

  • hcaptcha.com, *.hcaptcha.com — the check that runs when you request a code. Creating an account also starts with a code. If the check cannot run, no code is sent.

Used by single features:

  • intercom.io, *.intercom.io, intercomcdn.com, *.intercomcdn.com — the Support chat in the top bar

  • flagsmith.com, *.flagsmith.com — feature flags. When blocked, features that Brella turns on per organization do not appear.

  • fonts.googleapis.com, fonts.gstatic.com, cdn.jsdelivr.net — fonts and styles

  • userlens.io, *.userlens.io — product analytics

  • next.brella.io — previews of how the app shows your content, for example the App preview pane next to the sponsor form

  • *.sentry.io — error reports to Brella. Optional.

Attendee apps (next.brella.io, iOS and Android)

Required:

  • next.brella.io — the web app. White-label web apps use their own <organization>.brella.io address.

  • api.brella.io over https and wss — the Brella API and real-time updates for chat, meetings and notifications

  • brella.io — images are resized and served through brella.io/cdn-cgi/image

  • *.brella.io — other Brella hosts, including uploaded images and files (for example brella-assets.brella.io)

  • hcaptcha.com, *.hcaptcha.com — the check that runs before a code is sent, for sign-in and for account creation

Used by single features:

  • whereby.com, *.whereby.com — video calls in 1:1 meetings and breakout rooms. Room links are on brella.whereby.com.

  • cloudflarestream.com, *.cloudflarestream.com, videodelivery.net, *.videodelivery.net — pitch reel and profile video playback

  • onesignal.com, *.onesignal.com — push notifications on the web app and the mobile apps

  • intercom.io, *.intercom.io, intercomcdn.com, *.intercomcdn.com, intercomassets.com, *.intercomassets.com — support chat

  • expofp.com, *.expofp.com, unpkg.com, cartocdn.com, *.cartocdn.com — interactive maps

  • jsdelivr.net, *.jsdelivr.net — scripts and styles

  • *.sentry.io — error reports to Brella. Optional.

Email

  • Brella sends sign-in codes, admin invitations and event emails from [email protected]. Allow the whole brella.io domain on your mail filter.

  • Organizations with a custom email domain send their admin invitations and event emails from that domain. Sign-in codes always come from [email protected].

  • Code emails have the subject One-time password when the address already has an account where you sign in, and Please verify your account when the code creates one.

If Brella still does not load

If pages load slowly or a call keeps disconnecting, check the connection before changing firewall rules. Ask the attendee to open Account > Troubleshoot and follow Technical troubleshooting steps. Its Internet connection check tests internet access, the server response, connection speed and live updates.

For video playback, use Fix live stream problems. If a call cannot continue and the meeting chat still works, use it to agree on another time or contact method.

  1. Confirm the block with another network, for example a phone hotspot.

  2. Send your IT team the host lists for the admin panel and the attendee apps.

  3. If you can open the admin panel, select Support in the top bar to chat with Brella. If you cannot, ask your organization admin to contact Brella.

Troubleshooting

Verification code sent, but no email arrives
Brella sends the code only after the hCaptcha check passes. If hcaptcha.com is blocked, the page shows Captcha verification failed, or it shows Verification code sent and no email is sent. Allow hcaptcha.com and *.hcaptcha.com, then select Resend after 2 minutes. If the check passes, look for the email in your spam folder.

Captcha verification failed
The browser could not load hCaptcha. Allow hcaptcha.com and *.hcaptcha.com and reload the page.

The Support window does not open
The Intercom hosts are blocked. Allow intercom.io, *.intercom.io, intercomcdn.com and *.intercomcdn.com.

In the app, chat, meetings or notifications update only after a reload
WebSocket connections are blocked. Allow wss://api.brella.io.

A meeting or breakout room video call does not start
Allow whereby.com and *.whereby.com.
