A stream is a video player from your streaming or video provider, loaded inside Brella on the Stream page (or the name you gave it). You add it by pasting the provider's embed URL. Brella does not produce, convert or record video.
Before you start
You need to be an organization admin or an event admin.
Produce the stream or upload the video with your provider (for example YouTube, Vimeo or a webinar service). Brella has no built-in studio and no RTMP ingest.
The provider must allow the video to load inside another website (an iframe). Check the provider's embedding and privacy settings.
Where to find it
Content > Streams in the admin panel.
Find the embed URL
Brella needs the URL that the provider's embed code loads, not the page URL from the browser's address bar.
In the provider's dashboard, open the share or embed options of the live stream or video and choose the embed code. For the YouTube and Google Drive embed URL formats, see Set up your booth carousel.
The embed code is an
<iframe>tag. Copy only the value of itssrcattribute, for examplehttps://www.youtube.com/embed/WOKoMHve3lk.Keep any parameters the provider adds after
?. Player options such as autoplay, controls or colors are set with these parameters; Brella has no player settings of its own. See the provider's player parameter documentation, for example YouTube player parameters or Vimeo player parameters.
Paste only the URL. If you leave out https://, Brella adds it. Brella rejects the whole <iframe> code and non-web addresses such as ftp:// or mailto: links. A new stream then shows "Stream link creation failed"; an edited one shows "Something went wrong. Please refresh browser."
Some providers require the embedding website's domain in the URL. Twitch uses a parent parameter for this. Use the domain your attendees open the web app on: next.brella.io, or your organization's own .brella.io address if the event is white-labeled. The mobile app does not load the URL inside a frame; it opens it directly and sends the web app address as the referrer. Twitch decides whether to play in that case, so test a Twitch stream in the mobile app before the event.
Note: Free public streaming services can show your broadcast to people outside Brella. If the content is not public, choose a provider with access controls.
Add the stream
Open Content > Streams. If the page shows "You haven't enabled streams yet!", select Enable streams. If it shows "You have disabled streams!", select Re-enable streams.
On the Streams tab, select Create new.
Enter a Stream Title. Attendees see it in the stream list and above the player.
Turn on Enable Stream chat to give attendees a Chat tab with the player.
Under Who can watch this stream?, keep Anyone, or choose Specific lists and pick ticket type lists or custom lists under Select lists.
Paste the embed URL in Stream URL.
Select Save. Save stays inactive until Stream Title and Stream URL are filled and, with Specific lists, until you pick at least one list.
The stream is visible to attendees as soon as it is saved. The switch next to its title hides it from everyone, including you. To test it before attendees see it, limit it to a list that holds only your test account. See Test a stream before the event.
After saving
Select the stream's row to open it. Two options appear only on a saved stream:
Edit Side Panel (Integrations) adds tabs with external tools next to the player. See Set up stream chat, access lists and the side panel.
Set the stream to 'Live' and highlight on the homepage. shows a live card on the attendee home page and a "Stream is live" badge on the row. See Rename the Stream page and turn streams off.
Select Save changes after editing a stream.
Order the streams
Drag a row up or down to change the order. Attendees see the streams in this order. The new order is saved when you drop the row.
What attendees see
The Stream page (or the name you gave it) lists the streams the attendee is allowed to watch. Mobile app: Menu > Stream. Web app: Stream in the left menu, or Menu > Stream in windows narrower than 768 px.
Selecting a stream opens the player. In the web app the address is
/stream/<stream id>inside the event. The player is the provider's own player. Playback quality, delay and controls come from the provider. For the layout, see Resolve live streaming issues.
Without any visible stream, the page reads "No streams yet" (the word follows the page name).
Link a video from a session instead
To attach a video to a session, open Content > Schedule, open the session, and paste the URL in Stream/Video Url on the Details tab. Attendees get a Watch now button. In the web app, it opens a page inside Brella that plays the video, with Full screen and Open in new tab at the top. In the mobile app, it opens the URL outside Brella, in the browser or the app that handles the link. To play a video inside both apps, add it as a stream. See Add a recorded video to the home screen and schedule.
Limits
Only embeddable URLs work. If the provider does not allow embedding, the player stays empty.
There is no limit on the number of streams in an event.
The admin panel has no option to delete a stream. Turn off the switch next to the title to hide it.
The admin panel has no player size, ratio or branding settings. Set them in the provider's tools or through the URL parameters.
