Send your organization's event emails from your own domain instead of [email protected]. You add the domain, add 2 DNS records at your domain registrar, and turn the domain on.
Before you start
You need to be an organization admin. Custom domains appears in the organization menu only after Brella has turned it on for your organization. If you don't see it, contact Brella.
One custom domain per organization. You can't change the domain after you add it, and only Brella can delete it.
A domain can belong to only one Brella organization.
You need access to your domain's DNS settings, or someone who has it. Your registrar is the company where you bought the domain; another provider can host its DNS records. Ask your IT team if you do not know who manages them.
The domain applies to every event in the organization.
Where to find it
Open your organization in the admin panel and select Custom domains. The page title is Custom Domains.
Add the domain
Select Add custom domain.
On Add domain to Brella, enter your domain in Email domain, for example
yourdomain.comorevents.yourdomain.com. Leave outwww,@andhttps://. The field says "The domain contains an incorrect format" until the domain is valid.Select Next step. Brella registers the domain and shows the DNS records.
The notice on this step says one custom base domain can be added per organization. For more domains, ask Brella for another organization.
Add the DNS records
Add DNS records shows 2 records. Each has a Type, a Name and a Value, with a copy button next to the name and the value.
Record | Type |
DKIM | TXT |
Return-Path | CNAME |
Sign in to your domain registrar and open the DNS settings of the domain.
Add both records with the exact type, name and value from Brella. While a value reads "Fetching", wait and reload the page.
Back in Brella, select Validate records. The button reads Validating while Brella checks, and Last checked shows the time of the last check.
Under the records, one line per record shows the result: "We found the correct DKIM record — we're good to go." or "We didn't find the DKIM record — please try again later." The Return-Path line reads the same way.
When both records are found, select Next step.
DNS changes take time to spread. The page says "It may take up to 24 hours until we can see the records. You may close and reopen this page later to re-validate the records." When you come back, the wizard opens on this step until both records are verified.
Brella recommends that a network administrator or someone who knows DNS adds the records. Wrong records can affect email delivery for your whole domain.
Earlier DNS setup example; record values are hidden in the original image. Use the records shown in your own organization.
Activate the domain
On Activate domains, turn on Allow event emails from custom domains.
In Default sender name, enter the name attendees see as the sender. If you leave it empty, Brella saves
No Reply. In Default sender email, enter the part of the address before the @. Use a mailbox your team monitors, because attendee replies go there. If you leave it empty, Brella saves
noreply. The domain is added after the @.Select Save changes. The message "Custom domain updated successfully" confirms it.
From now on, emails from every event in the organization come from your sender name and <sender>@<your domain>. Some emails add a plus tag after the sender, for example noreply+<tag>@yourdomain.com. The reply-to address is the sender address. For the list of emails that use the domain, see Email settings and sender address.
Custom emails use the same sender name and address. They have no sender field of their own.
Settings

Turn the domain off or remove it
To send from [email protected] again, open Custom domains, turn off Allow event emails from custom domains and select Save changes. The domain and its records stay saved.
To delete the domain, contact Brella. The Delete button in the wizard is for Brella staff only; its tooltip says "Custom domains can only be deleted by trained Brella employees." The notice on Activate domains says removal requests can take up to 2 business days.
Limits
One custom domain per organization. The domain can't be edited; it can only be deleted by Brella and added again.
Brella uses the domain only while Allow event emails from custom domains is on and both records are verified. Otherwise emails come from
[email protected].Export emails and admin task emails always come from
[email protected].The start screen also mentions a subdomain for your events. Custom domains sets up the email domain only. A web app on your own subdomain is part of a white-label app, which Brella sets up. Contact Brella about it.
Troubleshooting
"We didn't find the DKIM record — please try again later." or the same for Return-Path
The record is missing, has a typo, or has not spread yet. Compare the type, name and value with the card in Brella, including the record type (TXT for DKIM, CNAME for Return-Path). Wait, then select Validate records again. Allow up to 24 hours.
Emails still come from [email protected]
Allow event emails from custom domains is off, or a record is no longer verified. Open Custom domains, check both records, turn the switch on and select Save changes.
"Custom domain setup has changed"
Your domain was added before Brella upgraded its email infrastructure, and its DNS records are no longer valid. Only Brella staff can remove a domain, including with the Remove domain button in this warning. Contact your Brella Customer Success Manager to remove the old domain. Then open Custom domains, add the domain again and add the new DNS records.
Custom domains is missing from the organization menu
You are not an organization admin, or Brella has not turned on custom domains for your organization.
