Hosts can record a breakout room locally in a desktop browser when recording is available in their Whereby room. Keep a downloaded copy: Brella stores no video. To show a recording in Brella, upload it to a video host and paste its embed URL.
Before you start
Recording is done by a host. Hosts join with the room's Host URL. See Host and join breakout rooms.
Use Chrome or another Chromium browser on a desktop or laptop. Whereby does not support local recording on mobile devices.
Open the Host URL before the event and check that recording is available. If it is missing, contact Brella through Support. You do not need the old Whereby recording extension.
Tell participants that the session is recorded before you start.
You need a video host that gives embed URLs, for example YouTube or Vimeo, to show the recording in Brella.
Record the session
Open the room's Host URL in the supported desktop browser.
Select Record in the bottom toolbar. Read the notice, then select Start recording.
In the browser's capture prompt, confirm that the room tab is selected before allowing capture.
Check that recording has started, then run the session.
Stop recording when the session ends. Whereby automatically downloads the recording to your device. Check your browser's Downloads.
Open the downloaded file and check its picture and audio before leaving or clearing browser data.
Earlier Whereby interface.
If you need to download another copy, use the same browser and device as the recording. Hover over the recording control, choose Get Recordings, then select Save beside the file.
Earlier Whereby interface.
Warning: Do not leave the room, clear browser data or change devices until you have checked the saved file. Whereby cannot recover a lost local recording.
The file is normally WebM. Before the event, make a short test recording in the host's actual browser. Check where it saves, then open it to test the picture and audio. See Whereby local recording.
Share the file
After you download the recording:
Upload it to your video host (YouTube, Vimeo or similar) or to cloud storage such as Google Drive. Convert the file to MP4 first if the host rejects the format.
Set the video's privacy so that attendees can view it, and so that embedding is allowed.
Copy the embed URL: the
srcvalue of the host's embed code. See Add a stream with an embed URL.
To send the file to colleagues, share the cloud storage link.
Show the recording in Brella
Note: The room's Speaker URL is the live room, not a recording. Do not paste it into Stream URL or Stream/Video Url.
As a stream (plays inside Brella)
Open Content > Streams and select Create new.
Enter a Stream Title, for example the room's name and date.
Under Who can watch this stream?, keep Anyone or choose Specific lists.
Paste the embed URL in Stream URL.
Select Save. The stream is visible at once. Turn its switch off to hide it from attendees until you are ready.
From a session
Open Content > Schedule and open the session.
On the Details tab, paste the URL in Stream/Video Url.
Select Update.
Attendees see a Watch now button. In the web app, it plays the video on a page inside Brella. In the mobile app, it opens the URL in the browser or the video host's app. Add a tag such as "On demand" to mark the session; see Tracks, locations and tags.
In a sponsor booth (plays inside Brella)
Open the sponsor under Sponsors and select Edit Virtual Booth.
Under Sponsor deck (carousel), select New.
In Slide type, choose Embed web page / video / stream (URL).
Enter a Title, paste the embed URL in Url, and select Create.
The recording plays in the booth's carousel.
On the home page
Customization > Home Screen > Mobile app welcome media > Video > Embed Video URL plays one video at the top of the home page. See Add a recorded video to the home screen and schedule.
Limits
Brella stores no video files and has no recordings list. Keep your own copy.
Only embeddable URLs play inside Brella. A file link from cloud storage works only if the storage service provides an embed URL.
Access to a recording follows the place you put it: the stream's lists, the session's lists, or the booth's visibility.
