Manage sponsor categories

Written by Customer Success

Categories group your sponsors into sponsorship levels, such as Gold and Silver. Each category has a Size that sets how its sponsor cards look in the app, and a list of sponsor tabs it appears on. You need at least one category before you can create a sponsor.

Before you start

  • You need to be an organization admin or an event admin. Sponsor admins can't see the Categories tab.

  • The sponsors feature must be on. If Sponsors shows "Sponsors feature is not active", select Activate.

  • Every sponsor belongs to exactly one category. Deleting a category deletes its sponsors. See Delete a sponsor or a category.

Where to find it

Sponsors > Categories in the admin panel. In an event with no categories yet, Sponsors opens on this tab and shows Create first category.

Create a category

  1. Open Sponsors > Categories.

  2. Select Add new, or Create first category in an event without categories. The Add new category window opens.

  3. Enter the Category name. The label counts the characters, for example "Category name (4 / 40)".

  4. Choose a Size: Small, Medium or Large. Each option shows a preview of the sponsor card. Only Large supports a cover image: "Cover image is only available for Large size."

  5. Under Show in tabs, keep or change the sponsor tabs the category appears on. New categories are placed on the Sponsors tab.

  6. Select Add. Brella shows "Sponsor category added successfully."

Add stays disabled until the name and size are filled in. Cancel closes the window without saving.

A category can also be created from the Create sponsor drawer with New category, and the sponsor import creates categories named in the file with the size Large. See Import and export sponsors with a CSV file.

Edit a category

  1. Open Sponsors > Categories.

  2. Select Edit in the row's Actions column. The Edit category window opens.

  3. Change the Category name, Size or Show in tabs.

  4. Select Edit. Brella shows "Changes saved successfully."

If you select Cancel after changing something, Brella asks "Are you sure you want to discard changes".

Changing the size changes the cards of every sponsor in the category at once. A sponsor's Cover Image field is available only while its category is Large; an uploaded cover image is kept but not shown for other sizes.

Reorder categories

Drag a row by the handle at the start of the row to a new position. The change saves at once with "Changes saved successfully." The app shows categories in this order. Sponsors inside a category follow Sponsor display order; see Organize the sponsor list.

Turn meet-at-booth on or off for a whole category

The Meet-at-booth column holds a switch per category. It is disabled with the tooltip "Meet-at-booth is disabled for this event" until Meet-at-booth is on under Sponsors > Settings > Booth.

  1. Select the switch in the category's row. The window "You may override some settings" explains that the change applies to every sponsor in the category and replaces their individual settings.

  2. Select Apply changes. Brella shows "Changes saved successfully."

Every sponsor in the category gets the same value. You can change single sponsors afterwards in Edit Details > Booth Control > Meet-at-booth. See Set up meet-at-booth and booth links.

Move sponsors to another category

  • One sponsor: open the sponsor, select Edit Details and change Category.

  • Several sponsors: on Sponsors > Sponsors, tick the sponsors, open the selection menu in the table header and select Change category. In Batch edit, choose the category and select Edit. Brella shows "Changes saved successfully." The moved sponsors also take the new category's Meet-at-booth value.

A moved sponsor goes to the end of the new category.

Settings

Field

What it does

Limits

Category name

Name shown above the category's sponsors in the app and on the booth

Required ("Category name is required!"), up to 40 characters

Size

Card layout for the category's sponsors: Small, Medium or Large

Required ("Please select category size!")

Show in tabs

Sponsor tabs that list the category. A category can be on several tabs

Default: the Sponsors tab

The table also shows Sponsors (the number of sponsors in the category), Included in tabs and ID. Select the ID field to copy the category ID: "Category ID copied to clipboard!".

What attendees see

  • On the sponsors page (or the name you gave it), sponsors are grouped by category in your category order. A category with no sponsors is not shown.

  • When a page lists more than one category, a category filter appears next to the search button. It defaults to All categories; selecting it opens the sheet Select a category.

  • Large cards show the cover image, the logo, the name, the subtitle, the representatives' avatars and the booth button. A Large card without a cover image looks like a Medium card.

  • Medium cards show the logo, the name, the subtitle, the representatives' avatars and the booth button.

  • Small cards show the logo, the name, the subtitle and the booth button, without avatars.

  • The booth shows the category name above the company name.

Limits

  • Category name: 40 characters in the admin panel form.

  • The Categories tab shows 10 categories per page by default. Change the page size at the bottom of the table (10, 50, 100, 200 or 500).

  • Sponsors can be dragged only within one category. To move a sponsor between categories, change its Category.

  • The Sponsors tab stays disabled until the event has at least one category.

Troubleshooting

The Meet-at-booth switch is disabled
Meet-at-booth is off for the event. Turn it on under Sponsors > Settings > Booth.

A category is missing in the app
It has no sponsors, or it is not on the tab you are looking at. Check the Sponsors column and Included in tabs on the Categories tab.

The cover image is not shown for a sponsor
The sponsor's category is not Large. Change the category's Size, or move the sponsor to a Large category.

"Uncategorized" appeared in the list
A sponsor import had rows with an empty Category cell. Rename the category or move its sponsors, then delete it.
