Networking status tells you whether a joined attendee has set up networking (Opted in) or skipped it (Opted out). Attendees who opted out can't chat or receive meeting requests from other attendees.
Before you start
You need to be an event admin or an organization admin.
Only joined registrants have a networking status. Registrants who haven't joined show "-". A registrant who joined but hasn't finished onboarding shows Opted out.
Where to find it
People > Registrants in the admin panel, column Networking.
Check one registrant
Open People > Registrants.
Find the person with the search box (name, email address, company name or title).
Read the Networking column: Opted in or Opted out.
For more detail, select View in the Actions column. The Joined user tab shows Networking Status.
Export the status for everyone
Open People > Settings.
Under Export, select Export registrants (.csv).
Brella emails you the file. The column
joined_user_skip_networking_statusistruefor opted out andfalsefor opted in.
Use the exported status to find joined attendees who are not networking. Some chose to opt out; offer setup instructions to those who want to network. Explain the benefit and link to Set up your networking profile. For timing and delivery options, see Plan your event communications.
What the status means
Opted in: the attendee finished the networking part of onboarding. They can appear in Your matches, chat, and send and receive meeting requests within their list permissions.
Opted out: the attendee skipped the networking part. Other attendees see them in the Attendees tab, but the Chat button is disabled ("is not available for networking") and meeting requests to them are rejected. They don't appear in Your matches.
Meetings you arrange from the admin panel skip this check. You can still book meetings for an opted-out attendee.
What opted-out attendees can do
An attendee who skipped networking is still in the event:
They can use the schedule, speakers, sponsors and the rest of the event content.
In People they can browse the Attendees list (or the name you gave the tab) and Bookmarks. There is no Your matches tab, and attendee cards show View profile instead of Connect.
They can't chat or suggest meetings. Profiles show "Enable networking to connect with fellow attendees." and Start networking instead of Chat and Suggest meeting.
Their Networking tab shows their profile card and Start networking instead of meeting requests and chats.
They can't scan QR codes. People has no Scans tab, and the scanner shows "You haven’t enabled matchmaking yet" with Start networking.
Their schedule hides networking slots, unless you arranged a meeting for them.
Sponsor representatives who skipped networking still appear on their sponsor's page. Attendees can't chat with them or request meetings until they opt in.
How the status changes
Networking-Oriented onboarding with Attendees can opt out of networking on (Details > Onboarding settings): the Set up your event profile step offers I'll do it later. The attendee confirms the Skip networking? question (Skip for now in the mobile app, the browser's confirmation dialog in the web app), and Brella records them as Opted out.
Networking-Oriented onboarding with opt-out off: attendees can't skip, so everyone who finishes onboarding is Opted in.
Fast onboarding: Brella records every new attendee as Opted out when they join. They become Opted in when they set up networking in the app. Saving Fast onboarding also turns on Attendees can opt out of networking.
Opted out to opted in: the attendee selects Start networking in the app, or Start join process again in their event settings, and completes the networking steps.
Opted in to opted out: the attendee selects Start join process again, then I'll do it later on the networking step, and confirms the skip. This needs Attendees can opt out of networking on.
If you turn Attendees can opt out of networking off later, opted-out attendees are sent back into the join flow the next time they open the event.
The admin panel has no control to change a registrant's status.
Troubleshooting
Most attendees show Opted out right after joining
The event uses Fast onboarding. The status changes when each attendee sets up networking in the app.
An opted-in attendee can't receive meeting requests
Their list permissions block it. Check Enable networking and Allow receiving requests from on their lists. See How permissions work when someone is on several lists.
