Automatic Tax Calculation with Stripe Tax

Written by Purnima Jayasuriya

Brella gives you more control over how taxes are calculated for ticket purchases. You can manage your event's tax settings directly from the Brella Admin Panel

Stripe automatic tax

The Stripe automatic tax setting lets Stripe calculate the applicable tax automatically during checkout based on the buyer's address.

When enabled, Stripe Tax determines the appropriate tax instead of using the tax rate selected under Applied tax rate.

Stripe Tax must be active on the connected Stripe account before you can use automatic tax. While Stripe automatic tax is enabled, the tax rate selected under Applied tax rate is ignored.

Stripe automatic tax is turned off by default for both new and existing events

How to enable Stripe automatic tax

  1. In the Brella Admin Panel, open your event.

  2. Go to Ticketing > Settings.

  3. Find Stripe automatic tax.

  4. Make sure Stripe Tax is active on your connected Stripe account.

  5. Enable the Stripe automatic tax toggle.

Applied tax rate

If Stripe automatic tax is turned off, Brella uses a manual tax rate.

By default, the first tax rate added is applied to ticket purchases. If more than one tax rate is available, you can choose which rate to apply from the Applied tax rate dropdown.

Tax rates are created and archived in your Stripe dashboard.
