Turn on group meetings

Written by Customer Success

Group meetings let more than two people meet in one networking slot. Attendees add guests when they suggest a meeting or invite them to a meeting they already have. You turn the feature on in Networking > Settings and allow it in each networking area where you want them.

Before you start

  • You need to be an event admin or an organization admin.

  • Meeting slots must be on in Networking > Settings. Group meetings take place in networking slots, so the schedule needs networking slots. See Create networking slots.

Where to find it

Networking > Settings in the admin panel, section Meetings.

Turn on group meetings

  1. Open Networking > Settings.

  2. Under Meetings, check that Meeting slots is on. Group meetings appears only while it is on.

  3. Turn on Group meetings. The switch saves at once and the admin panel shows "Networking settings updated successfully".

  4. To change the maximum group size, enter a number from 2 to 100 in Group meeting limit and select Save. The limit counts everyone in the meeting, requester and receiver included. An empty field uses Brella's default limit.

Allow group meetings in your networking areas

Each networking area decides which meeting types it accepts. Areas you created or edited while Group meetings was off accept 1:1 meetings only.

  1. Open Networking > Networking Areas.

  2. Select Edit on an area where you want group meetings. The Edit Networking Location drawer opens.

  3. Under Allowed meeting types, tick Group meetings. Keep 1:1 meetings ticked unless the area is for group meetings only. At least one type is required.

  4. Select Save Changes.

  5. Repeat for each area.

Allowed meeting types appears only while Group meetings is on. See Set up networking areas and meeting points.

Edit Networking Location drawer with Allowed meeting types and both checkboxes ticked

What attendees see

  • When an attendee suggests a meeting and the request has a time slot, an Add others button appears. The app picks a free slot for the two people, and the attendee can change it. In a slot whose area accepts 1:1 meetings only, the button is disabled and selecting it shows "This networking area is for one-to-one meetings only". In a group-only area, the attendee must add at least one guest before Send request works ("Add at least one attendee to suggest a group meeting").

  • A pending or accepted meeting gets Invite others in its menu when its area accepts group meetings.

  • Each guest gets a group meeting request. See Group meetings in the attendee help center.

Arrange group meetings yourself

You can create group meetings for attendees from Networking > Managed Meetings with Add more people, or from a registrant's Meetings tab. See Arrange meetings for attendees.

Limits

  • Group meeting limit: 2 to 100 people, requester and receiver included. Empty uses Brella's default limit.

  • The mobile app and the web app have their own cap on how many people an attendee can add to a meeting, even when Group meeting limit is higher.

  • A 1:1-only area refuses group meetings ("Networking area cannot accept group meetings"). A group-only area refuses 1:1 meetings ("Networking area cannot accept 1:1 meetings").

Troubleshooting

Group meetings is missing from Networking > Settings
Meeting slots is off. Turn it on first.

Attendees don't see Add others
Group meetings is off, or the request has no time slot because the app found no free slot for the two people. If the button is disabled, the slot's area accepts 1:1 meetings only. Edit the area's Allowed meeting types.

"Networking area cannot accept group meetings" when you arrange a meeting
The slot's networking area accepts 1:1 meetings only. Edit the area, or choose a slot in another area.

"Maximum of <n> participants allowed"
The meeting has more people than Group meeting limit allows. Remove a guest or raise the limit.
