Duplicate a custom email to another event

C
Written by Customer Success

Duplicate copies a custom email within the same event. To reuse an email in another event, copy its design from the editor and paste it into a new email in the other event.

Before you start

  • You need to be an organization admin or an event admin in both events.

  • The other event must be Invite only, otherwise its Custom Emails page does not open.

  • Registrant lists belong to one event. You choose the lists again in the other event.

  • Sent emails open read-only. Duplicate a sent email first, then copy from the copy.

Where to find it

Communications > Custom Emails in the admin panel, column Actions.

Duplicate within the same event

  1. Open Communications > Custom Emails.

  2. In the row of the email, select Duplicate.

Brella creates a draft named "<name> (copy)" with the same subject, content, triggers, audiences and lists. A scheduled time is not copied. Select Edit on the copy to change it.

Copy an email built in the visual editor to another event

  1. In the source event, open Communications > Custom Emails and select Edit on the email. If the email is sent, select Duplicate first and open the copy.

  2. Select Proceed to open the Content step.

  3. In the panel on the right, open the Source code tab. In windows up to 1400 px wide, the panel opens as a drawer.

  4. Select the email background so that no block is selected. Json source then shows the whole email. With a block selected, it shows only that block.

  5. Copy everything in Json source.

  6. In the target event, open Communications > Custom Emails and select Create New.

  7. Fill in the Settings step, including the lists of that event, and select Proceed.

  8. In the Visual editor, open Source code, select the email background, replace the contents of Json source with the copied JSON and click outside the field. The editor applies the change when the field loses focus. Invalid JSON shows "Invalid content".

  9. Check the content for event-specific details such as dates, names and links, then select Review and save.

Images uploaded through the visual editor keep working in the other event. They are stored by Brella and referenced by URL.

Copy an email built in the HTML editor to another event

  1. In the source event, open the email with Edit (or Duplicate it first if it is sent) and select Proceed.

  2. Copy the contents of the HTML code field.

  3. In the target event, select Create New, fill in the Settings step and select Proceed.

  4. Select HTML editor, confirm the switch, and paste the HTML into HTML code.

  5. Check the content, select Review and save.

Duplicate a whole event

Brella can duplicate an event together with its custom emails. The copies are drafts in the new event, without a schedule. Their lists are kept only if the registrant lists are duplicated too. Organizers can't start an event duplication themselves; contact Brella.

Limits

  • Settings (name, subject, sending method, triggers, audiences, lists) are not copied between events. Enter them again.

  • An email opens in the editor it was built with. The JSON source only works in the visual editor, and HTML only works in the HTML editor.

  • Sent emails can't be edited in either event.
