Order speakers and choose featured speakers

C
Written by Customer Success

Set how the speaker list is sorted in the mobile app and the web app, and pick the speakers that appear in the Featured speakers row on the Home page.

Before you start

  • You need to be an organization admin or an event admin.

  • The Speakers feature must be active. If Content > Speakers shows Speakers feature is not active, select Activate.

  • The Speaker order field only has an effect when Display order in apps is set to Custom order. Check that setting first.

Where to find it

Content > Speakers in the admin panel. The Display order in apps list is above the speaker table. Speaker order and Highlight order are fields in each speaker's profile (Edit Profile).

Choose the sort order for the speaker list

  1. Open Content > Speakers.

  2. In Display order in apps, choose one option:

    • First name

    • Last name

    • Company name

    • Job title

    • Custom order

The change is saved when you choose it. The message Speakers updated successfully confirms it. There is no save button.

Events created after June 2026 start with Last name. Events that existed before the setting was added were set to Custom order.

This setting does not change the order of the table in the admin panel. The admin table sorts by Custom order, then first name, unless you sort a column.

Give speakers a custom order

Use this when Display order in apps is Custom order.

  1. Open Content > Speakers.

  2. Select Edit Profile on the speaker.

  3. Enter a number in Speaker order. 0 or higher.

  4. Select Save and update.

The number appears in the Custom order column of the table. Select the Custom order column header to sort the table by it.

With Custom order, the apps sort speakers by Speaker order, then first name, then last name. Speakers with the same number sort by name. Speakers without a number come after all numbered speakers.

You can also set the order in bulk with the Position column of the speaker CSV import, or through the Core API field position. See Import and export speakers.

Choose featured speakers and their order

Featured speakers appear in a horizontal row on the Home page of the mobile app and the web app.

  1. Open Content > Speakers.

  2. Select Edit Profile on the speaker.

  3. Tick Highlighted. The Highlight order field appears with the value 1.

  4. Change Highlight order if needed. 1 to 999.

  5. Select Save and update.

The table shows the value in the Highlight order column with a star. To remove a speaker from the featured row, untick Highlighted and save. This clears the Highlight order.

What attendees see

  • The Home page shows Featured speakers (the word "speakers" follows the name of your Speakers tab, in lowercase). It lists up to 5 speakers, sorted by Highlight order, with a See all button. The row is hidden when no speaker is highlighted or when the Speakers feature is off.

  • The speaker list opens in the order set by Display order in apps. The attendee's Sort by menu has By default, By job title (A-Z), By last name (A-Z) and By company name (A-Z). By default is your Display order in apps.

  • The speaker widget on your website sorts its Featured Speakers section by Highlight order, and its All speakers section by Display order in apps.

Limits

  • Speaker order: whole numbers, 0 or higher. The field accepts up to 1000.

  • Highlight order: whole numbers from 1 to 999. The field accepts 0 and 1000, but saving then fails with a validation error.

  • The Home page shows at most 5 featured speakers. Speakers with a higher Highlight order than the first 5 are only in the speaker list.

  • Highlight order is not in the speaker CSV import or export. Set it in the profile or through the Core API field highlight-position.

Troubleshooting

I set Speaker order but the app list did not change
Display order in apps is not Custom order. Change it to Custom order. The other four options ignore Speaker order.

A speaker is highlighted but not on the Home page
More than 5 speakers are highlighted and this speaker's Highlight order is not among the lowest 5. Lower the number, or remove other speakers from the featured row.
